Library Internship Portfolio (2019 – 2020)

From September 2019 – December 2019, I interned at the Rochester Museum and Science Center‘s Schuyler C. Townson Library. Among other things, I worked on a finding aid to the Ellwanger Selden collection (with Stephanie Ball, MLIS), revised the finding aid to the Freeman C. Johnson papers (originally written by Sandra Gordon and revised by Terry Abrams), and summarized the pamphlet by “We Called Her Anna” about Nathaniel Rochester and slavery in Genesee County, NY (original pamphlet written by Marilyn S. Nolte, Victoria Sandwick Schmitt, and Christine L. Ridarsky for the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County).

From January 2020 – March 2020, I interned at Ganondagan State Historic Site. My primary function there was to initiate a cataloging system within the archives where none had existed previously, as well as to inventory the books currently in archives. This remains a work in progress, and I hope to have an article written soon regarding this process, as well as to continue the work as a volunteer. The catalog system utilized is one based off the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute revision to the Brian Deer Cataloging Scheme, which was pioneered by the Xwi7xwa Library at the University of British Columbia. In the meantime, you can view a partial list of items on Ganondagan’s LibraryThing, which I created and continue to maintain for the site. As of the time of my internship there, it was decided for various reasons not to make an account with OCLC’s WorldCat.
