During my tenure at the RMSC Rochester Museum & Science Center, I served as an archival intern (2019) and the librarian/archivist (2023) for the Schuyler C. Townson Library. As such, one of my duties was to create and edit finding aids for the archives’ various collections, which would allow researchers to better know and understand what materials were in the collections. These were done according to DACS (Describing Archives: A Content Standard). For examples of my finding aid work, you may view the Guide to the Danforth-Huntington Family Diaries, Guide to the Genesee Valley Canal Records, Guide to the James Bruen Papers, and the Guide to the Martha Matilda Harper Papers (in alphabetical order by collection name only).

While an intern and archivist at Ganondagan State Historic Site (2020), I initiated a localized catalog system where none had existed before. This system was tentatively titled the Kantor-Ganondagan Expansion on the ACCI Revision to the Brian Deer Classification Scheme (abbreviated as KGE-ACCI-BD). While the name may be a mouthful, we wanted to acknowledge the cataloging schemes that came before it, specifically the Aanischaaukamikw Cree Cultural Institute Revision to Brian Deer, as well as the original Brian Deer Classification System. While these are excellent systems, we found they did not address several aspects of the Indigenous People of the United States, which was our focus. Additionally, since my tenure there was predetermined to be temporary, we also needed a system that could be easy to follow for non-librarians who may or may not have experience in the useful but flawed systems of Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress. If you would like a brief paper I have written on the subject of this localized cataloging system that pays respect to the Indigenous People of North America, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email at AlexisAKantor[at]gmail[dot]com
