Student Portfolio (2019 – 2020)

From Jan 2019 – Jun 2020, I was a graduate student at Syracuse University’s iSchool program in Library and Information Sciences. During that time, I completed multiple assignments that I feel demonstrate my skills. Below are a few such assignments:

In spring 2020, for IST 600 (Academic Libraries), I did a reading report on the book Research is Ceremony and gave insight as to its relevancy to academia. I also made a one-slide presentation regarding five major takeaways from the reading.

For IST 613 (Library Planning, Marketing, and Assessment) in spring 2019, I spent the quarter working with a partner library, evaluating its efficacy and making recommendations as to where it could improve. I chose to work with the Schuyler C. Townson Research Library at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, a relationship that led to my internship with them and my eventual employment there. I wrote a paper and made a PowerPoint of my findings.

For IST 616 (Information Organization and Access) in summer 2019, I created a website with the catalog for a fictional library in both RDA and MARC. I did this with my teammates, Tianna Mignogna and Cynthia Eller, both of whom were incredibly helpful.

For IST 635 (Collection Development and Access) in spring 2019, I performed a literature review on the ethics behind collections development regarding Indigenous materials in non-Indigenous museums. I found this assignment fascinating and would have gladly researched even more if I’d had the time.
